West Long Branch, NJ –  Monmouth University will host Rock ‘N’ Raise, a battle of the bands event, on April 8 from 1 to 5 pm in Monmouth University’s Plangere Center.  All proceeds from the event will benefit American Cancer Society Relay for Life.  The event is free and open to the public. Tickets are $3 and can be purchased at the door or in advance by calling Donna Mancini at 732-571-3482.

Sponsored by Monmouth University’s Hawk TV, WMCX radio, PRSSA (Public Relations Student Society of America), and CommWorks (Students Committed to Performance), bands performing include Black Tooth Grin, Johnny Moon, Whale Pond, and Suburban Groove.  The winning band will receive Avid Pro Tools 9 music production software.

In addition, Monmouth’s own comedian Max Timko of Hawk TV’s original “Academic Audit” and magician Ross Bernstein will entertain the audience.  CommWorks/WMCX member Nicole Vitale will perform poetry slam pieces.

Refreshments will be on sale for $1 including hotdogs, hot pretzels, cotton candy, popcorn, and lemon ice.  Free games will include pong toss, coin toss, balloon busting, and guitar hero jam sessions.
