HAZLET,  NJ —Hazlet author and resident, Rebecca Weinstein, has released “Nashoga: Book 1 of the Redstone Series,” a 165-page novel that chronicles the adventures of an alpha wolf deposed from his pack While in exile, Nashoga meets Buck, an elk with an attitude and the two are thrust into a dire situation. While many animal stories have been told before, this one offers a unique perspective and answers a universal question: Can food be friends?

Originally from Middletown, Weinstein has lived in Hazlet for the past three years. Her love of animals inspired both “Nashoga” and her first book, “Dexter By A Nose,” a middle-grade novel about an underdog racehorse.  Weinstein is an avid reader, writer, and painter. She created the cover artwork for both of her novels.

“Writing and painting are the two activities I love most,” Weinstein said. “It was a great opportunity to be able to present them together with the creation of Nashoga. I love that cover painting. It’s my favorite to date.”

Weinstein is an alumna of Monmouth University, where she received her Bachelor in Arts and Masters in the Art of Teaching. She is currently working on the second in the “Redstone Series” and teaches art at Mater Dei Prep in Middletown, New Jersey.
