SHREWSBURY, NJ – On Sunday, January 9, 2011, from 3-5 p.m., the Guild of Creative Art hosted an opening reception for their January exhibit, “Real to Surreal.”   Photographer and Guild Board Member, Trudy Maran, was the lucky recipient of the “People’s Choice” award for her fascinating “Double Play”.   The exhibit opened on January 8 and ends on February 2.  It showcases artwork in a variety of mediums and subject matter by many talented artists of all three member levels: general, associate, and exhibiting; and each artist may have 1 or 2 works displayed. Some of the featured painters, sculptors, and photographers have recently been promoted to associate and exhibiting level through our semi-annual portfolio jury. This exhibit is an enthralling interpretation of the theme by Guild artists from throughout New Jersey. The artwork is an interesting balance of realistic and surrealistic subject matter and areas in between.

In addition to this intriguing exhibit, Dorris Crandall’s students’ work is displayed in the Guild studio from the Drawing & Multi-Media plus Portfolio Review workshop.  Please come and enjoy; admission is free and we are always open to the public.

The Guild was founded in 1960 by watercolorist Yvonne Aubert and a group of artists who joined together to form an arts cooperative offering exhibition space, a studio for classes and a communal meeting area. The Guild of Creative Art celebrated its 50th anniversary last year and is the oldest non-profit arts cooperative in New Jersey and the largest, with almost 500 members. The guild offers classes for adults, teens and children, and it hosts monthly exhibits in its gallery, as well as social events, demonstrations and lectures.
