MONMOUTH COUNTY, NJ – On February 13, 2011, two local residents will take the field at the New Meadowlands Stadium, East Rutherford, to play football in an effort to raise money for the Special Olympics of New Jersey.
Bill McCarron, of West Keansburg, and Joe McCarron, of Navesink, will take part in the 2011 New York Giants Snow Bowl Tournament. The event, now in it’s fifth year, places teams against one another in a game of flag football. Players collect sponsorships, which go directly to the Special Olympics organization.

The McCarron brothers, who are both volunteer firefighters in their respective towns, are very excited to take part in the event. “This is good opportunity to help a great organization,” says Bill, a heavy machinery operator by trade.
Though raising money for the organization is their main goal, Joe, a letter carrier for the U.S. Postal Service, admits that there is another perk. “We are very excited to actually be able to play football right on the field at the Meadowlands. We are both life long Giants fans. It’s pretty neat that we can play on their field and help those in need at the same time.”
The Special Olympics of New Jersey provides year-round sports training and athletic competition in a variety of Olympic-type sports for more than 21,000 children and adults with intellectual disabilities, giving them continuing opportunities to develop physical fitness, demonstrate courage, experience joy and participate in a sharing of gifts, skills and friendship with their families, other Special Olympics athletes and the community.
According to the Snow Bowl’s website, the tournament has raised more than $115,000 for Special Olympics New Jersey over the past four years.
Donations can be submitted on behalf of Bill or Joe through their personal donation pages on the Snow Bowl website. Donations can be made via credit card, or mailed directly to the Special Olympics using the downloadable form on their pages.
