ATLANTIC HIGHLANDS, NJ – The Genevieve M. Hawley Memorial Foundation has awarded 15 scholarships and community service awards to 15 area students for 2010.
Since the foundation inception in July of 2002, the foundation has awarded 72 scholarships and community service awards to deserving students in Monmouth County totalling over $60,000.
Prior to receiving their respective scholarships and awards, the students were honored with a luncheon that took place at Julia’s Restaurant in Atlantic Highlands. Among the 250 guests who attended the annual awards luncheon were; Congressman Frank Pallone, Jr. (D-Sixth Congressional District), Atlantic Highlands Mayor Frederick Rast III, Highlands Mayor Anna C.Little, Assemblyman Dave Rible, Monmouth County Freeholder Director Lillian Burry, Monmouth County Freeholders John Curly, John D’Amico and Amy Mallet, members of the Atlantic Highlands and Highlands governing bodies as well as retired Atlantic Highlands Superintendent George C. Wuesthoff, who was a longtime friend of Genevieve Hawley.
Those students who were honored as the 2010 award recipients were; Derek Springsteen and Caitlin Hartsgrove, both from Henry Hudson Regional School, Kelly Trinidad, of the Atlantic Highlands Elementary School, David Fitzgerald, of the Highlands Elementary School, Joshua Thomas (winner of of the Bart J.Hawley Memorial Scholarship), of Middletown High School South, Robert Dorfman, of Freehold Borough High School, Paula Annunaziato, of Red Bank Catholic, Michael Ruane, of Middletown High School North, Erika Rech, of High Technology High School, Edward Reiman, of Rumson-Fair Haven Regional High School, Tori Cedar, of Mother Teresa Regional School, Shannon Samaris, of the Freehold Borough Elementary School, and Emma Dodi, Kaitlin Gilbride and Grace McIlvian, all from Thompson Middle School in Middletown.
The foundation also presented Henry Hudson Regional High School Athletic Director Edward Reiman with a plaque for organizing and for directing the annual Genevieve M. Hawley Memorial Holiday Basketball Tournament which take place each year between Christmas and New Years.

The foundation was founded to honor the memory of the late Genevieve Hawley whose death in May of 2002 was the result of a tragic accident. For more than 40 years Hawley was a community, political and civic activist. She served for 27 years as a member of the Henry Hudson Regional Board of Education until her untimely death and she retired in 1990 as the district director for Congressman Pallone.
In addition to their scholarship and community service award programs, the foundation has given away thousands of dollars to a wide range of community projects and organizations.
