ATLANTIC HIGHLANDS, NJ – Former Mayor Peter E. Donoghue has been elected the new Democratic municipal chairman.

He was unanimously chosen at the organization meeting of the eight-member borough Democratic county committee on Thursday, June 17. The local party committee members were elected in the June 8 Democratic primary election.

Other officers elected were Eileen Colelli, vice chair, and former Councilwoman Louise I. Donoghue, secretary.

Donoghue succeeds Councilman Roy Dellosso, who stepped down after serving four years as chairman.

The former mayor pledged the Democratic organization’s full support to the party’s nominees for Borough Council, Eileen Cusack and Rita Eaton, whom he called highly qualified and thoroughly dedicated to good government.
