ATLANTIC HIGHLANDS, NJ – THE WAR MAN, The True Story of John Allison , a Citizen-Soldier Who Fought from Quebec to Yorktown, told in a recent book by local author Robert A. Mayers, a direct descendant of Allison. This is a rare intimate portrait of a real Revolutionary War soldier, a true story of a young farmer who fought for the entire eight years of the war.
The event introduces a unique opportunity to follow the entire course of the American Revolution through the eyes of a front line soldier. Corporal John Allison accidentally experienced first-hand many key historical events of the Revolution although at the time he probably was not aware of their significance.
Often in the presence of George Washington, Allison marched in the ranks with Lafayette and was drilled by Baron Von Steuben. He was commanded by Benedict Arnold and served with Alexander Hamilton at Yorktown. As a soldier he had a ringside seat at a remarkable array of the most memorable battles, campaigns and encampments of the war. These adventures and his epic journey provide readers with a travelogue of the entire conflict.
