June 7-12 at Brookdale’s Long Branch HEC

Lincroft, NJ -The best quality entertainment bargain of the summer season is the Monday, June 7 –Saturday, June 12 Third Annual Juneteenth Urban Arts Festival at Brookdale Community College’s Long Branch Higher Education Center (LBHEC), 213 Broadway. The outside Saturday entertainment is free; the week night evening inside stage events at 7:00 p.m. and at 8:30 p.m. are each $9. The free Saturday line up begins at 11:00 a.m. and continues until 8:00 p.m. Rain date is Sunday, June 13.

“Juneteenth, also known as Freedom Day or Emancipation Day, is an annual holiday in 14 states of the U.S. It is celebrated on June 19 and commemorates the announcement of the abolition of slavery in Texas. Since 1980, Juneteenth has been an official state holiday in Texas. Thirteen other states list it as an official holiday, including Arkansas, New York, Massachusetts, New Jersey, Connecticut and Alaska,” explained Darrell Lawrence Willis, Sr., Festival director.

The Festival Monday through Thursday evening entertainment features new play staged readings.

The Saturday open air stage lineup will entertain from the outdoor stage in the rear of the Long Branch Higher Education Center. There is ample area for setting up lawn chairs and comfortable beach blanket seating.

The Saturday music entertainment includes individual vocalists, gospel groups and R&B bands. Among the featured artists are Darius Newman-Millstone, T-Bone Watts and The Funckshunizin Band/R&B/Group from Monmouth & Ocean Counties, Sharon Sylvester-Neptune, Brianna Vogel-Neptune, Billy Brown-Asbury Park, Debbie Willis-Eatontown, Janette Herring-Neptune, Lady Diana Thorpe-Freehold, Judy Mae Thorpe and By Grace-Freehold and The Exciting Holy Echoes-Freehold.
