FREEHOLD, NJ – The Red Horse Art Gallery, a collaborative effort between The Arc of Monmouth and VSA arts of New Jersey, has been chosen by the Monmouth County Arts Council to receive the Champion of the Arts Award, one of three Arts Education Awards for 2010. The gallery is being presented with this award for providing opportunities for lifelong learning in the arts for people with disabilities to promote their skills, talents and dreams.

The Red Horse Art Gallery, housed in The Arc of Monmouth’s Arc Resources Unlimited in the Freehold Raceway Mall, opened in April of 2007.  In addition to the gallery, the space serves as one of the agency’s employment centers offering a job training and placement program and an afternoon drop off center.

The gallery itself displays the artwork of individuals with disabilities and has held art classes for individuals with disabilities.

The gallery will be presented with this award at the annual Art Education Awards on Monday, May 17th from 6-8 PM at the Two River Theater in Red Bank.

The Arc of Monmouth serves more than 1,700 individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities and their families each year with education, vocational training, residential services, health care, supported employment, recreation, social services and advocacy.
