ImageLast Sunday evening I as I was evaluating the day, I could not remember any comments on my sermon.  In a split second, I remembered that I did not greet the people at the door after the service because I had a meeting with the baptismal candidates who will be baptized this Sunday.

The month of October in clergy circles is known as Pastor's Appreciation Month.  As one who serves a congregation that is appreciative not only one month, but the entire year, I wanted to remark on some of the things that I appreciate about this congregation.

I appreciate the fact that they know that before they called me to be their pastor, I was called by God to be a pastor.  It is a calling that I treasure with fear and trepidation, with joy and delight.

I appreciate the fact that even through I am a public person, I have a private life.  The people in the congregation know that I am married and that I have children, and they have been supportive of my role as husband and father.

I appreciate the fact that while the door of my office and the door to my home is always open, almost all call before they stop by.  It may be that they are excellent time managers, but also they do not want to wait or assume that I do not have anything else to do.

I appreciate the fact that some of them are praying for me and my family on a regular basis.  They ask me what my needs are and tell me that they have prayed for me.  Some call later to find out what has happened in my situation.

I appreciate the fact that when they leave the church on Sunday mornings they tell me what they have received from the worship service.  Some tell me at the door in one sentence and some call me or tell me in an open forum.

I appreciate the fact that when the members and friends of Central Baptist Church introduce me they say, "This is Pastor George Hancock-Stefan.  He is my Pastor and I am blessed to be a member of the church that he leads.

In this month of Pastor's Appreciation, I want to say how much I appreciate the members and friend of Central Baptist Church, a great congregation to serve as Pastor.
