A MAN OF THE PEOPLE?
In answer to the letter in the TRT last week from Stan and Anne praising Mr. Curley, I have to ask the following questions. His campaign is anti-development but when Mr. Curley was on the Red Bank Zoning Board for three years he voted 44 times yes for development projects and voted no on important projects such as the Visiting Nurses expansion, the emergency room and Cyber knife expansion to Riverview Hospital.
He was the financial officer and had overseen the budgets and submitted them to the city counsel. He voted against the town budgets that he submitted. What puzzles me is that if he was in charge of preparing those budgets, why would he present them and then vote “no” unless it was to get attention. As to the parking meters, they are generating a $250,000 in income to offset taxes. I do agree with all the candidates that the price of a parking ticket is too high.
He has promised to “lower taxes” which will never happen unless the cost of all services, gas, electric and insurance come down. Over the last 12 years Red Bank has gone from being the second highest taxed borough in Monmouth County to number 27th ranked. During that 12 year period tax increases averaged less then the cost of inflation. That was accomplished by all the boards in Red Bank working together, the very boards Mr. Curley wants to replace.
Dr. Guy Maratta and Lou De Mento have worked hard to improve our town over the past ten years by serving on those very boards. Mr. De Mento has a degree in Urban Planning and has served Red Bank for over ten years as has Dr. Maratta. Dr. Maratta has been on the planning board for over 10 years. He worked with the Red Bank school system doing free scanning for scoliosis for over 20 years. I believe in voting for the best man or woman regardless of political party. In my opinion it happens to be the democratic candidates this time.
