TAKE A BREAK

I have for years told people to balance out their lives by working out, taking time for loved ones and friends and going on vacation.  The latter I have not done for myself in years and I was paying a toll for that.  I finally listened to my own advice and came to visit some friends in the Turks.

I am use to islands like St. John's, Tortolla, St, Barts which are a far cry from the Turks and Cacious Islands.  They are a cross between a working island and a beautiful resort that is a work in progress.  The waters are as beautiful as any I have every seen for diving, snorkeling, sailing or just general laying on the beach which happens to be twelve miles or longer.  There are plenty of hotels and beach front restaurants with great food or you can hide for a day or week in the Club Med here.

Like most of the Islands there is a strong sense of belonging by the locals and there is a strain on that attitude as to over development.  There is also a large influx of boat people from Haiti where there is civil unrest and the local government does not have all the equipment and manpower to deal with it.

This is all I can say at this moment and will do better cover story when I return.  In the meantime I am learning a lot about the island and am doing a good bit of sailing, reading...etc.  I have been here a week and am just starting to relax and unwind.  I will never go this long with a vacation again. Physician heal thyself is something I must listen too when I give advice regarding having a balanced life.
