OUR MACHIAVELLIAN SUPREME COURT Following the dictates of Machiavelli as he wrote in "The Prince," "If the goal you are working for is important enough, then whatever you do to get there is acceptable," the Supreme Court of the United States rested its case of property seizures on the morals of one of the most questionable characters in history. It could not have been more painful, or demoralizing to Americans, or more shocking to other nations. The Court might have adopted the ethics of George Bernanos who wrote "A Diary of a Country Priest." Bernanos said, "The first sign of corruption in a society . . . is that the end justifies the means." If we were to choose which statement is moral and true, it is far and away Bernanos. The people of this country agreed upon that as soon as they expressed outrage at the US Supreme Court decision on Eminent Domain seizures to be given to the wealthy and powerful. So how did such an august body turn immoral? Again, I offer a quote that can express it far better than I can since it is a whole new concept for me. Eckhart Tolle in "A New Earth," says . . ."the end and the means are one. And if the means did not contribute to human happiness, neither will the end. The outcome, which is inseparable from the actions that led to it, is already contaminated by those actions and so will create further unhappiness. This is karmic action, which is the unconscious perpetuation of unhappiness." Perhaps it is an instinctive warning that we give ourselves in situations where we have capitulated to the temptation of the ‘means’ to achieve an ‘end’ result. It just plain doesn’t feel right nor does it work out right. We can just wonder if the Court, the municipalities and the developers don’t continue to be nagged by feelings of ‘not right’ and worries of karmic justice. MORE . . . .HARNESSING ENERGY IN CROWDS We long ago succeeded in harnessing the energy of water to produce hydroelectric power on a massive scale. Today an even more basic energy is being explored. It is called "crowd power." Whereas we previously powered escalators to serve people’s locomotion, now we can use the vibration produced by peoples’ feet on stairways and streets for sustainable energy. All of our hustle and bustle will be transformed into such benefits as lighting roads and heating buildings. The energy of foot traffic can be converted into current to be stored in batteries, or in little generators that will be geared to resonate at our frequency. On another front "Nature", reports that stem cells from a male mouse have been made to produce both sperm and eggs. It was done by culturing a male mouse embryo in a dish with retinoic acid. Cells on the outside of the cluster had become sperm and those on the inside had formed follicles, which then released eggs. What will this mean -- that men and women won’t absolutely need one another for reproduction in the distant future? Sometimes life gets too bizarre. Energy of all sorts seems to take the spotlight, and why not. We are at the brink of discoveries that will enable us to understand and use our own energy for what may be untold uses. When we can picture ourselves as primarily energy and only incidentally matter, the realization will project us further and further into wonderment. Just a little bit of wonderment that I left out in EFT (Emotional Freedom Technique). . . . an acupressure point that is under the eye on the cheekbone. That makes five on the face. As I learn more, I’ll write more.
