READER'S WRITE

I've been reading about another sad event in our contry's recent history. We're going to build a fence at our border between Mexico and the United States. This is the best we can come up with. How very Eastern European and Israeli of us. Because those ideas worked/are working so well over there.

These aren's dogs we're trying to keep out. They are people. People who want to work and better their lives. People, dare I say, who can climb a fence. People who might even own...gasp....a wire cutter!!!

Want to control the illegal immigration problem? For starters, we could start slapping fines on all of these companies who are hiring them. Less demand = less illegal immigrants. Then we could make is a bit easier for people to get a work visa. And have it seem more possible to actually become a US citizen.

Or we can continue to look like fools and build a fence while singing God Bless America and wearing some sort of flag outfit (jacket, shirt, hat, etc.). And have a bunch of local yokels dare to call themselves Minute Men and insult the real Minute Men who helped form this nation.

I wonder if we will build a fence between us and Canada too? Or are they okay because their skin color is less threatening and their music is more boring?
