There has been so much discussion and controversy over what is going to happen to Fort Hancock at Sandy Hook. Developers want to rape the land for profit. Environmentalists want to keep it the way it is. Locals want whatever will cause less traffic during the Summer. I believe that, right now, the area is a waste. It's an old historic fort, true. It HAD some significant history and value, true. I say tear it down. What to do with the land? Has anyone thought of having a wind farm on the site? Something that would benefit thousands of residents, as well as the local US Coast Guard Station. We're a country of change. We were founded on forward thinking. What good is a broken down fort doing us? It's cool to visit. Once. How cool would it be to visit a wind farm that saves NJ residents energy bills? One that is a renewable source of energy? One that does not pollute and does not rely on oil? If you think of it as an eyesore, you need to rethink your stance. It's time for this country to change its way of thinking. Our president won't do it. He just asks us to remain vigilant and buy things while everything around us fall apart. We need some real innovation here. What better way for New Jersey to show its support than building a wind farm on Sandy Hook? What better way to show the rest of the country that New Jersey cares about the environment? That we aren't just New York's parking lot and a toxic waste dump. It won't affect the public beaches, won't raise traffic and is no danger to any local residents or visitors. And it could be very profitable. Stop living in the past. Change can be good if done for the right reasons. Turning Fort Hancock into Bed and Breakfasts is change for greed and consumption. Tearing down Fort Hancock for use of a renewable source of energy is a good thing. I believe there is more than enough wind there for this to happen. I also know it will never happen.
