Let me add my dismay to Carol Bucco's letter to the editor regarding the short sighted and irresponsible actions of Highlands' Councilmen Urbanski and Caizza in refusing the pass the BID's budget for this year.
Not only did Urbanski and Caizza, for their own purposes, override the judgment of the BID members and board of directors who were volunteering to pay additional taxes to fund the BID for the betterment of our town, by authorizing the BID calendar of events earlier this year and then withholding the funds to underwrite those events, Urbanski and Caizza have put Borough at risk for breach of contract with vendors and sponsors of the events as well as the loss of deposits that have already been made to secure these events.
As a result Highlands will have no Clam Fest, no October Fest, no Farmers Market or Car Show this year, events that have become part of the culture and attractiveness of our town. Now all the taxpayers, not just the businesses, of Highlands may have to foot the bills for these events, even though they won't happen.
