WHICH
OF THE FOUR FOOD GROUPS DO CHEESE PUFFS FIT INTO?
17 May 2001
After learning that my cholesterol was high I picked up a copy of Eating Well for Optimal Health by Dr. Andrew Weil.
I admit it, the motivation was mine (high cholesterol) and the behavioral change (healthier diet) came as a natural result. I don't want to have a heart attack or stroke, so I did the logical thing. I changed my diet.
Problem was I wanted to change my daughter's diet too.
I tried motivating her to want a healthier diet. I told her that eating cheese puffs and chocolate chip pancakes everyday will cause her to gain weight, rot her teeth, and ruin her complexion. She seemed to process the information I gave her.
Later that day I got very frightened when she questioned her body image.
I decided that I would make unhealthy foods less available. I also will make healthy food that she does like more readily available.
Here are two of her favorite healthy snacks:
Banana Strawberry Smoothies
1 Banana
1 Frozen Strawberry
1 Cup Vanilla Soy Milk
Ice
Throw everything in a blender.
Blend and serve.
Bugs on a Log
1 large celery stalk, cut in four (apple slices also work)
Peanut Butter
Nuts and Raisins
Spread peanut butter on celery.
Add nuts and raisins. (Throw in a chocolate chip or two and it's a real hit!)
