RED BANK, NJ - The Red Bank Public Library’s popular series of four Thursday evening art classes, “Drawing and Painting with Rocco Scibetta,” returns September 9 through September 30, 2010, from 7:00 to
8:45 p.m. The classes are free, but registration is required. Please call or come to the library to register in advance for the class, which is arranged by the Adult Department of the Red Bank Public Library and supported by funding from the New Jersey State Library.
Free English as a Second Language classes for adults 18 and over are offered regularly at the Red Bank Public Library in partnership with the Literacy Volunteers of Monmouth County. The next series of ten weekly classes will begin September 9 at 7:00 p.m. Students may register in person at the first two classes on September 9 and 16. Douglas L. Haviland of Meridian Life Support Training will conduct a free Family and Friends CPR training class at the Red Bank Public Library on Monday, September 13, 2010, from 7:00 to 9:00 p.m. An emergency training professional, Doug will demonstrate the life saving CPR skills needed for helping infants, children, and adults. Join Monmouth County Master Gardener Carol Palmer when she presents the program “Putting the Garden to Bed” at the Red Bank Public Library on Wednesday, September 15, from 7:00 to 9:00 p.m. Carol, a Master Gardener for eight years, will review the tasks to be done in your garden to finish this season, prepare for the first frost, and look forward to next spring. She will discuss dividing and transplanting perennials, planting bulbs, over wintering tender plants, bringing in houseplants, garden bed clean-up, lawn care, mulch, and compost. Master Gardeners are volunteers, trained by Rutgers Cooperative Extension, who are committed to providing gardening and horticultural information and services to their community. The program, arranged by the Adult Department of the Red Bank Public Library and supported by funding from the New Jersey State Library, is free and registration is not required.
Friends of the Red Bank Public Library invite lovers of libraries, books, and bargains to their three-day Used Book Sale at the library beginning Saturday, September 25. The event begins with a special Preview Sale from 8:00 to 9:00 a.m., with an entrance fee of $10.00. Following the Preview Sale, book sale hours will be Saturday 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m., Sunday 1:00 to 5:00 p.m. , and ending Monday with a bag sale from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m.
There will be a huge selection of current bestsellers, mysteries, classics, fiction and non-fiction, DVDs, CDs, and a separate room for the Children’s Book Sale. The sale on Saturday is in conjunction with Red Bank’s Town-Wide Yard Sale. All proceeds will benefit the Friends of the Red Bank Public Library, a group that supports the library by establishing closer relations within the community and raising funds to enhance library materials, services, and programs.
The Red Bank Public Library’s Acoustic Saturdays series returns for the start of its third season at the library on September 25 from 2:00 to 4:00 p.m. in the Eisner New Jersey Room. The library presents this series featuring acoustic musicians and singer-songwriters on the last Saturday of the month from September to November and January to May. The Acoustic Saturdays programs at the library are produced and hosted by guitarist Anton Daub, the emcee of the weekly acoustic open microphone on Wednesday nights at Espresso Joe’s coffeehouse in Keyport and a frequent performer at many of the area’s acoustic music venues. These free performances are supported by funds from the New Jersey State Library.
“Career Assessment and Resume Preparation” on Wednesday, September 29, 2010, from 7:00 to 9:00 p.m. will be the second of three career planning programs offered at the Red Bank Public Library conducted by Nancy Anderson of Blackbird Learning Associates, Bound Brook. Artists seeking inspiration, motivation, and a special time to devote to their work are invited to attend an informal gathering once a month at the Red Bank Public Library. The “Artists’ Workshop” takes place the first Thursday of each month from 7:00 to 8:30 p.m. in the library Community Room. The workshops are free and no registration is required. Participants should bring their own drawing and painting materials, although oils are not permitted because of ventilation concerns.

The Red Bank Senior Center in cooperation with the Red Bank Public Library hosts a book discussion group on the last Monday of each month at the Senior Center at 1:00 p.m. Red Bank Borough residents age 60 and over are welcome to join the Center and participate in this or any of its other great programs.
