Long Branch, NJ–Delly Beekman, CEO of Family & Children’s Service (FCS), today announced that she will be retiring after what will be six years at the helm of Monmouth County’s oldest, private nonprofit social service agency. In a message to the FCS board of directors and her staff, Ms. Beekman cited confidence in the agency’s current position and the board’s ability to find a qualified successor.
“The decision to retire from FCS did not come easily,” Ms. Beekman said. “I have spent the better part of my life involved with FCS and will sincerely miss the individuals I have had the privilege to work with, including the board, my amazing staff and our dedicated volunteers. I am confident, however, that the board will choose a new CEO who will maintain our long-held values while taking the agency to new heights.”
In response to the announcement, FCS’s board of directors’ chair Deborah Zilai expressed deep gratitude to Ms. Beekman for her dedicated service to the agency and pledged to lead a thorough, deliberate search for her successor.
“As a resident of Monmouth County and a board member, I know the trust and confidence people have in FCS," Ms. Zilai said. "That’s due in large part to the quality of leadership Delly has brought to the agency. We’re in a strong and stable position right now, both financially and programmatically, and Delly has left us well-positioned for continued success.”
Ms. Beekman has been a part of the FCS family for more than 30 years. She began her career as a volunteer, serving on the FCS board of directors for
24 years, including two as president. In December, 2012, Ms. Beekman was appointed interim CEO of FCS before being named CEO in March of 2013. During her tenure, she led the expansion and growth of numerous agency programs and services including:
- Expanding Adult Protective Services (APS) to include Monmouth and Middlesex Counties, doubling the number of cases of abuse, neglect and exploitation it investigates.
- Partnering with Middlesex County to provide Telephone Reassurance to homebound seniors.
- Advocating for funding to hire additional social workers to meet the critical needs of vulnerable adults in our community.
- Supporting the growth of the Representative Payee program to manage the finances of more than 1,300 developmentally and intellectually disabled individuals.
- Launching the Medicaid Application Assistance Program (MAAP) to provide assistance with the complicated Medicaid MLTSS application.
Before coming to FCS, Ms. Beekman, a graduate of Newton College of the Sacred Heart, now merged with Boston College, had just completed a two-year term as president of the Association of Junior Leagues International, Inc.
In addition to her involvement with the League, Ms. Beekman served on the nominating committee of the Girls Scouts of the Jersey Shore and the board of the Children’s Research Triangle in Chicago. For ten years she also managed Leadership Shore, a community leadership program offered by Brookdale Community College.
Ms. Beekman says that while she has no definite plans for life after retirement, she expects to spend more time with her family, including her husband, Peter, the couple’s four grown children, their spouses and their two grandchildren.
Ms. Zilai anticipates the leadership transition will go smoothly. “The board has a detailed leadership succession plan and after a review of our strategic goals, we will release a job announcement in the coming months.”
Ms. Zilai expects the board to announce a new CEO by the beginning of the new year, 2019. Ms. Beekman will continue with FCS through that time to ensure a smooth and successful transition.
