HOLMDEL, NJ - This morning Holmdel Township was made aware of residents’ concerns with recycling pickup and procedures during the Wednesday, Aug. 15 collection.

Due to a miscommunication with our new recycling company, Suburban Disposal, the collection maps they used during yesterday’s rounds did not include any of our municipality’s condominium developments.

The township thanks you for your understanding as we work to remedy this issue. We have communicated with Suburban Disposal and are working to have the problem solved by week’s end.

NO PLASTIC BAGS IN YOUR BIN

Some residents were also dismayed to find that there recycling items were not collected if they were placed into a receptacle while contained in a plastic bag. Like many modern recycling companies, it is the policy of Suburban Disposal not to collect recyclables stored in plastic bags.

The New Jersey Department of Environmental Protection notes that, though plastic shopping bags are recyclable items, “they should not be put into your recycling bucket. These bags jam up the processing equipment at recycling centers.” Instead, plastic bags should be recycled separately through programs established in local supermarkets.
