Keansburg Fire Company and New Point Comfort Fire Company, with the help of East Keansburg Fire Company and West Keansburg Fire Company, under the direction of Keansburg Fire Chief James Merkel, arrived on scene and extinguished the fire quickly. Keansburg Fire Inspector Al Scott and the Monmouth County Fire Marshall’s Office arrived on scene to conduct their investigation. As of this time, the fire is not believed to be suspicious.
Keansburg Emergency Medical Services arrived on scene and evaluated all 8 victims. Ultimately, a Medevac was requested and transported a 37 year old male to St. Barnabas Burn Center. A 34 year old female and six juveniles, ranging in age from an infant to 17 years old, were transported to a local hospital for further evaluation. All victims suffered smoke inhalation. As of early this morning, all victims had been discharged except the male, who remained in critical condition at St. Barnabas. The Keansburg EMS was assisted by Hazlet EMS, Keyport EMS, and the Monmouth County MAB Bus.
Due to the extensive damage of the home, the Red Cross was contacted and responded immediately to assist the family with housing arrangements.
