LINCROFT, NJ - More than two dozen musical performers will join with environmental groups for the  42nd Annual NJ Friends of Clearwater Festival, on  September 9 and 10 at Brookdale Community College.  The free event, designed to entertain and inform, is New Jersey's oldest and largest music and environmental festival.

The festival celebrates the environment with music and song on three stages along with exhibits and other useful information about how to protect our nature resources.   The theme is “Fight to Keep Earth Great”.

“Now more than ever, citizens need information about ways to protect the environment in their daily lives and to engage in public discussion of environmental policy, locally and nationally.” said Chrissie Goedkoop, President of  New Jersey Friends of Clearwater. “Our goal is to provide that information along with great music and traditional summer fun.”

The weekend event will be on the lawn at Larrison Hall Commons on the

Brookdale campus  in Lincroft  from 11 am to 7 pm on Saturday and  11 am to 5 pm on Sunday, September 10.  This family-friendly festival also offers  a children’s area, arts and crafts, food and other vendors. Festival-goers should bring a chair or blanket.

Attendees will be greeted by environmental groups including Sierra Club, Whale Pond Watershed Association, Citizens Climate Lobby, Monmouth County Climate Coalition, Food & Water Watch/ Food & Water Action Fund.

Live music will be performed on the Seeger and Kllian Stages in a variety of styles from rock, folk and country to jazz and blues and more on three stages.

The Wag, After the Reign and the Jody Joseph Band are among the more than two dozen groups performing.  The Circle of Song Stage, coordinated by singer Ingrid Heldt, features singers who will also encourage festival-goers to join in the fun.  See attached stage schedules for full line up.

A Sustainability Roundtable will be conducted at 2 pm Saturday with environmental advocates to share information about their activities and concerns about maintaining environmental regulations that protect the earth and its inhabitants.

Michael Gabriele, historian and author of a new book, New Jersey  Revival Music,  History and Tradition,  will be also be featured at the festival on Saturday.

New Jersey Friends of Clearwater (NJFC) is a grass roots organization, non-profit, volunteer-run and staffed that advocates for the environment year-round and provides education in schools and other gatherings. The festival began in the ‘70s when Pete Seeger visited the county and inspired environmental action.  This year’s event is made possible in part by Monmouth Arts through funding from the Monmouth County Board of Chosen Freeholders and the NJ Council for the Arts and the Shaker ShopRites .
