ah first presbyterian churchATLANTIC HIGHLANDS -- The Rev. Dr. Gary Wetzel of Lakewood will be the guest speaker on Sunday, Sept. 3 at the 127-year-old church at Third and East Highland Aves.

All area residents are invited to attend the service.

Wetzel served as pastor of the Garwood Presbyterian Church for 26 years.

He is now a member of the Monmouth Presbytery and lives with his wife Joan in the Fairways adult community in Lakewood, where they lead two Bible studies each week.

He is also writing a reference work for pastors that will enable them to quickly find the right scriptures to incorporate into their worship service.

Wetzel was born un Spokane, WA., attended Mississippi State University and later graduated from Gordon-Conwell Theological Seminary in South Hamilton, MA, with a master of divinity degree. He subsequently served as intern pastor of Bethany Presbyterian Church in Bloomfield and the Collingwood (NJ) Presbyterian Church. He is also a graduate of the Drew University Theological School at Drew University in Madison, NJ.

Brenda Crespo of Metuchen, a candidate for the ministry in the Elizabeth Presbytery, will be the guest speaker on Sept. 10 and the Rev. Joanne Petto, chaplain and bereavement
services manager for VITAS Innovative Hospice Care, Eatontown, will preach on both Sept. 17, at the church, and Sept. 24, at the Gazebo in the municipal yacht harbor.
