little silver recreation baseballLAKEWOOD, NJ - On Saturday, June 3rd the 13 and 14-year-old recreation baseball players from Little Silver got "the call" up to the big leagues. The two teams from Little Silver at this age group got to play a game at First Energy Park - Home of the Lakewood BlueClaws. It was the experience of a lifetime for the families who made the journey. They toured the stadium upon arrival and then took the field for a game under the lights on a beautiful, 70-degree, clear summer night. Rick Brandt, Little Silver’s Baseball Coordinator organized the event and umpired the baseball game.

Little Silver, Rumson, Fair Haven, Red Bank, and Shrewsbury make up the local Two River Little League, which offers baseball and softball for 9-year-olds through 14-year-olds during April, May, and June. This is the forth year of Two River Little League and the participating towns are seeing an increased interest since joining Little League International, a 77-year-old association dedicated to children playing baseball and softball.

little silver little league 1Every spring the Little Silver PTO and Recreation Department organize "Little Silver Night at the Lakewood BlueClaws" where hundreds of families from Little Silver watch a game, participate in pre-game festivities and listen to the chorus children from Little Silver sing the National Anthem. In return for filling up the seats in May for a game during "Little Silver Night at the Lakewood BlueClaws" the minor league affiliate to the Philadelphia Phillies, invited the children from Little Silver to play a game at their stadium while the BlueClaws are out of town playing an away game. On June 3rd, the stadium was home to Little Silver! The BlueClaws and the Little Silver community have a wonderful, long-standing partnership and support each other frequently.
