HIGHLANDS, NJ - The Highlands Business Partnership is proud to present the 15th Annual St. Patrick’s Day Parade on Saturday, March 18, 2017 at 2:00 PM. The colorful festivities surrounding the parade will showcase Irish culture with over 100 marching units including bagpipers, marching bands, Irish dancers, and beautifully decorated floats. The parade will begin at Waterwitch Avenue and extend along Bay Avenue. The 2017 Grand Marshal is Ken Braswell, ShoreGrafx and HonoraryGrand Marshall is Jay Cosgrove, Bahrs Landing Restaurant, celebrating 100 years.
Ken, originally born in Georgia, moved to Highlands in 1982 and has been a very active volunteer in the community ever since. He has served on the Highlands Zoning Board for 30 years, the Highlands / Atlantic Highlands Sewer Authority, and the Highlands Elementary School PTO. Ken is currently, the Vice Chair of the Unified Planning Board, a member of the Highlands Lions Club and the Highlands Business Partnership. Ken is the owner of ShoreGrafx, Inc. established in 1991, and provides photography, graphic design, and web and print services. HBP is proud to present Ken as our 2017 Grand Marshal.
Jay Cosgrove is the co-owner of Bahrs Restaurant, a family business for 100 years in Highlands. Bahrs attracts over 100,000 visitors to their establishment annually. They employ many Highlands residents and are most charitable to all local and regional non-profit organizations. They have a scholarship fund for Henry Hudson students who have worked at Bahrs. Jay serves as the Vice President to the Highlands Business Partnership and Ray was one of the founders. The parade will begin at Huddy Park with hundreds marching along a one-mile stretch of Bay Avenue. Principal of Henry Hudson Regional School, Lenore Kingsmore who was voted New Jersey’s Best Principal in 2016 will emcee the parade at the viewing stand in Veterans Park. Highlands Business Partnership will host the annual “Competition of Floats.” All Businesses and/or Organizations in Highlands will be competing in three (3) categories: Best of Show, Prettiest, and the Most Original. In addition, a trophy will be presented for the Best of Apparatus. All fire companies will honor a silent march in tribute to all of our fallen fire fighters.
The parade will feature entertainers along with many marchers representing Military, Political, Civic, Church, and other community organizations. Congressman Pallone, members of the Assembly, County Freeholders, the VFW and American Legion, fire companies, first aid rescue units and scouts. The Henry Hudson Regional Marching Band and Cheerleaders will be performing with over 100 members. The Parade entertainment will include the Monmouth County Police & Fire Pipe & Drums, Ocean County Emerald Society Pipe & Drums, Staten Island Pipes & Drums, Middlesex County Police & Fire Pipes and Drums, Union County Police & Fire Pipes & Drums, Essex County Emerald Society Police & Fire Pipes & Drums, Richmond County Pipe & Drums and the Patrick Torphy Pipe & Drums.
Don’t miss the Highlands Business Partnership’s “Lucky Pot of Gold” 50/50 Raffle. The drawing will be held at 140 Bay Avenue on Sunday, March 19th at 3:00PM, and the winner need not be present.
