Pastor Rack recalls Jesus described as 'Reconciler'

ATLANTIC HIGHLANDS, NJ - AREA RESIDENTS are invited to join the members and friends of the First Presbyterian Church of Atlantic Highlands for the 11 a.m. Sunday worship service.

The sermon by the Rev. Paul F. Rack is entitled "The Lamb of God" and will be based on a Scripture reading from John 1:29-42. It will be held at the nearly 127-year-old church at Third and East Highland avenues.

"John the Baptizer identifies Jesus as the Lamb of God who takes away the sin of the world" according to the pastor. "That means he sees that Jesus is the Reconciler who brings God and humanity together, and people together with each other.

"The first step in this mission is gathering together community of disciples who learn his way and follow him, so they can call others to this new kind of life.

"That community still gathers, including in our church every Sunday. We assemble for one main purpose, which is to hear what God has to say to us and to follow Christ ... together. For we also gather to support and encourage one another. We are a community of love and blessing, forgiveness and peace.

"Finally, we gather to remember Jesus the way he instructed us to remember him, which is by sharing the Sacrament of his Body and Blood. Thus we symbolically become him, his body, together. And we undertake his mission of love."

Elder Barbara E. Stone will serve as the liturgist for the service.

The David Nunez-directed adult choir will perform during the service.

Area residents are also invited to attend the pastor's weekly "Bible by the Bay" Bible Study at 11 a.m. every Tuesday at Sissy's Restaurant in the municipal marina.
