NEW! 1,000 Books Before Kindergarten
Families are invited to join the 1,000 Books Before Kindergarten program at Middletown Library. This program encourages parents and caregivers to regularly read aloud to their children thereby providing essential early literacy skills. By reading just one book a night, families can reach the 1,000-book goal in three years. Registration is ongoing. The 1,000 Books Before Kindergarten program is available to all families with children between the ages of birth and six years. Visit mtpl.org for details
NEW! Lapsit Storytime for infants (pre-walkers)
This program provides infants that are not yet walking with a first group experience in enjoying books, nursery rhymes, songs and fingerplays. This program is for pre-walkers and includes time for play and caregiver socialization. Visit mtpl.org for details
Lego Sampler by Ignite Academy – Wed, 2/3 @ 3:45pm (for 1st – 4th graders)
Join the NJ state certified teachers from Ignite Academy for an hour of Lego Learning. This is a sampler class where we will build, create and explore the possibilities of Legos together. We will create gondolas for our Lego figures to zipline across, build and race pull back motor cars, and design Lego bridges that will withstand the weight of several books. Are you up for the challenge? Registration required as space is limited.
Learn About Great Backyard Bird Count - Wed, 2/10 @ 3pm (for Grades K-5)
Come on over to the Wonder Window area to learn about the Great Backyard Bird Count! Joanne Mutschinski of Wild Birds Unlimited will talk about the birds we can expect to see in winter and nature in general. Then we'll make a bird house and hear a few winter nature stories. No registration required.
Knitting for Newborns –Thursdays in February @ 4pm (For ages 9-18)
Join the Teen and Tween Knitting Club for a special project. Knit together and create a blanket to donate to Blankie Depot. Blankets will be donated to nearby NJ hospitals for newborn fragile babies in need. Get community service hours for helping. Teen knitting teacher volunteers needed to teach those who are beginners (leadership experience!)
Enjoy some spontaneous fun, get help, practice a skill or make new friends in our drop-in programs throughout the month @ Middletown Township Public Library. We offer Mother Goose, Simply Story Time, Kids Playgroup, “Just Chill” for 6-8 year olds, American Sign Language instruction, Math Tutoring, LEGO’s, Scrabble & Chess for Kids, TEEN Tutoring & Reading Buddies.
