Col. Wilbur Bishoff (ret.), former Atlantic Highlands Borough Administrator, addresses the assembled citizens at the Veteran's Day ceremony Wednesday.
ATLANTIC HIGHLANDS, NJ - Members of the C Eugene Allen American Legion Post 141, area veterans, and the community at large, gathered at Veterans Park today to celebrate all those who have served in the United States military.
Col. Wilbur Bishoff described a recent classroom visit to his grandson's school, saying the children are still very interested in the military. Today, he told the crowd, we celebrate all veterans - those who served for 39 years like himself and those who served two years. The time served does not matter. We should thank all veterans, he said.
Post Commander and borough councilman Peter Doyle shared an anecdote about a veterans ceremony he recently attended. He noticed the men next to him wearing medals, each award more impressive than the last. These veterans, he said, humbly answered the call to serve.
Doyle invited the assembled crowd to lunch at On the Deck restaurant in town.
