ATLANTIC HIGHLANDS, NJ – Louise I. Donoghue and Marilyn Scherfen have been elected co-chairwomen of the municipal Shade Tree Commission.
Also re-elected were Bill Thorne as treasurer and Mary Thompson as secretary.
The 2015 officers were chosen at the commission’s annual organization meeting Jan. 13.
Donoghue is a former borough councilwoman and a retired Henry Hudson Regional School foreign language teacher. Scherfen is the retired borough librarian.
After the organization meeting, the commission met with Pam Zipse and Michael D’Errico of the state Forestry Department, who are helping to revamp the borough’s five-year community forestry management plan, which is a requirement for the Tree City USA award. The commission received a state grant of $3,000 for this plan.
The study will allow the commission to plan for tree replacement, maintenance and removal of hazardous trees.
