It was a magnificent sight! To the cool sounds of a Blue Grass band and the smoky aroma of the amazing pig roast; men and women in kilts were tossing a sheaf over a standard held by the Colts Neck #1 fire station’s ladder truck! Meanwhile, children were whisked away in a hay filled 1952 tractor to enjoy a ride around the festive grounds. Families and friends joined for food, fun, fellowship and hope under a canopy of blue skies and warm breezes. Hope under a canopy of blue skies? Yes, there was much hope in so many forms at this festival that it was dizzying. And thus the real magic happened as a result of coming together and helping each other.
We need each other. Whether it is something we have gone through or are going through that has caused us pain, worry or fear it brings us together. Something so beautiful and touching happened at this gathering, people shared their stories; vulnerable as they may have been, they gladly and joyfully opened up. Faith, hope and love began to replace the pain, worry and fear. It was simply beautiful; peaceful. You knew you were not alone; you are never alone.
What would move a church to provide such an amazing weekend for free? We asked the church pastor, Chris Durkin, this very question and he shared this, “Our church is moved by the free gift of salvation given to us by God and we are moved to communicate to the community that we are here simply to serve.”
This movement and passion to serve is evident in their multiple ministries. But hold onto your hats, because their next performance will include a camel! That’s right, Preston the camel will be just one of the many church’s living nativity highlights. They can’t reveal all of the surprises just yet, but mark your calendars now! December 20th the Colts Neck Community church invites you to their 2nd annual Living Nativity Event. You won’t want to miss it!
