ATLANTIC HIGHLANDS -- The First Presbyterian Church will celebrate Pentecost during its 11 a.m. worship service Sunday. Members and friends are asked to wear red and the sanctuary will be decorated in that color.
The sermon by the pastor, the Rev. F. Rack, is entitled "The Spirit Means Community." According to Rack, the first fruit of the descent of the Holy Spirit on the apostles was the formation and expansion of a community of prayer, learning and sharing.
The sermon is based on Scriptures found in Acts 2:1-47.
The David Nunez-directed adult choir will sing during the service.
Sunday School, which is open to all area children, will be held following the children's sermon.
Child care for four-year olds and up is provided during all services at the church at Third and E. Highland avenues.
At 12:30 p.m., following the worship service, the Board of Deacons is hosting a "Pampered Chef Party" to which all area residents are invited. The program will feature David J. Meenan, the Broadway chef and stage actor.
The 124-year-old church also announced that it will be participating in the community Vacation Bible School July 14-18 from 8:45 to noon at the Atlantic Highlands Elementary School. The free program is open to four-year-olds through six graders. Families can register their children at https://www.groupvbspro.com/vbs/ez/iamcm.
