MIDDLETOWN, NJ - The following police report is provided by the Middletown Township Police Department.  All subjects are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.

On Wednesday, March 6, 2014shortly before 4:00 am, Middletown Police responded to a 911 call on Suffolk Lane, in Middletown, for a report of a drug overdose. The caller then subsequently left the house and waited for police.  Upon arrival, the first responding officers were directed to the home where they encountered a male subject in the home who was armed with a knife.  The subject became combative, and violently attacked the officers.  A struggle ensued, and the subject repeatedly attempted to stab the officers before they were able to subdue the man and place him under arrest.  In the course of arresting the defendant, one of the officers, Patrolman Frank Mazza, was injured and suffered stab wounds.  The injured Officer and the defendant were both transported to Riverview Medical Center.  

 

The first responding officers to the incident were Patrolman Lawrence Seymour, Patrolman Frank Mazza, Patrolman Savvas Roumeliotis, and Patrolwoman Larisa Doriety.

Patrolman Mazza was treated at Riverview Medical Center for his injuries and was later released. 

The defendant, Scott H. Knudsen, age 24, of Suffolk Lane, in Middletown, was charged with Attempt to Commit Murder, Aggravated Assault upon a Police Officer, Unlawful Possession of a Weapon and Possession of a Weapon for Unlawful Purposes.  Bail for Knudsen was set by the Honorable Judge Richard B. Thompson at $ 510,000.00 with NO 10% option allowed.
