Come enjoy a Wii Game Party on Monday, September 16, 2013, from 4:00 to 5:00 p.m. There will be Wii games, board games, and “Minute to Win It” challenges, plus snacks, for children age 5 and older.  To register, please visit or call the Children’s Room at 732-842-0690 x115.

Timber, a certified therapy dog, visits the library twice a month to sit with and listen to hesitant readers and dog lovers too. The Children’s Room also offers free drop-in Storytimes for young children with a caregiver on Monday, Tuesday, and Thursday mornings at 10:30 a.m. Join us for some quick stories, musical activities, and a craft.  Registration is not required for storytimes.

Join the next meeting of the Artists’ Workshop for adults at the Red Bank Public Library on Thursday, September 5, 2013, from 7:00 to 8:30 p.m.  Artists seeking inspiration, motivation, and time to devote to their work are invited to attend the Artists’ Workshop for the regular meetings on the first

Thursday of each month.   Red Bank artist Joe Bergholm is our Artist-in-Residence and works with the artists as a group and individually, offering suggestions for subjects as well as guidance in principles of art such as color, composition, and the selection and use of materials.   The Artists’ Workshop is free and no registration is required.  Participants should bring their own drawing and painting materials, although oils are not permitted because of ventilation concerns.

Learn how to Outsmart Your Smartphone Saturday, September 7, 2013, from 10:00 to 11:30 a.m. with librarian Erik Stevenson at the Red Bank Public Library.  Smartphones are everywhere, but using them can be daunting since they are much more than just a phone.  This free class will cover Android phones and Apple iPhones, smartphone terminology, and choosing a smartphone plan.  Please register by visiting or calling the Adult Reference Desk.

Award-winning journalist Gilda Rogers will return to the Red Bank Public Library this fall with her popular writing workshop Write Now! If you are a writer with a work in progress, bring in what you've written and get Gilda’s FRANK TALK analysis.  Good editing is essential to preparing your work for publication.  In the workshop you will explore the concept of "less is more" when it comes to writing.  Find out all you need to know about getting your work self-published and learn the pros and cons of self-publishing vs. commercial publishing.  Write Now! with Gilda Rogers is a free three-session workshop for adults 18 and over.   The workshop will meet Wednesday October 9, November 13, and December 11, 2013, from 6:45 to 8:45 p.m.  Please plan to attend all three workshops.  Space is limited and registration is required.  Registration begins September 9, 2013.  Please register in person or by phone at the Adult Reference Desk. 

Douglas L. Haviland of Meridian Life Support Training will conduct a free Family and Friends CPR training class at the Red Bank Public Library on Monday, September 9, 2013, from 7:00 to 9:00 p.m.  An emergency training professional, Doug will demonstrate the life saving CPR skills needed for helping infants, children, and adults.  Please call Meridian Health at 732-776-4470 to register.  Please note that this class is not designed for those who require a CPR certification card for the workplace.

Colleen Smith, MA, MSW, LSW, of the Monmouth County Office on Aging, leads regularly scheduled Caregiver’s Support Groups at the Red Bank Public Library. The meeting dates in September will be Wednesday, September 11, 2013, from 7:00 to 8:30 p.m. and Tuesday, September 17, 2013, from 3:00 to 4:30 p.m.  These free programs are available to anyone who is a caregiver for a person over the age of 60.  Caregivers are invited to come and relax while finding resources and information with a supportive group of peers. Drawing and Painting with Rocco Scibetta will begin Thursday, September 12, 2013, from 7:00 to 8:45 p.m. and continue each Thursday evening through September 26.   Learn the basics of drawing, color, and design or refresh and broaden your technique in this popular workshop suitable for adults and students in the eighth grade and up. The River Read Reading Series will return to the Red Bank Public Library for its second year of readings by noted poets and open mic poetry readings on Saturday, September 21, 2013, from 2:30 to 4:30 p.m.  The afternoon will feature a dramatic reading of Mick:  A Celestial Drama by Connecticut-based poet Jim Kelleher.  The public is invited to this free program.  No registration is required.

If you want to revitalize your physical health, if you seek peace mentally, emotionally, and spiritually, and if you are facing challenges in your life, join author and physical therapist Regina Rosenthal on Wednesday, September 25, 2013, at the Red Bank Public Library from 7:00 to 8:30 p.m. as she discusses her new book The Heart of Healing: Discovering the Secrets of Self-Care.  Regina, who has practiced physical therapy in Monmouth County for thirty years, will discuss ways to maximize health and well-being through self-care.  There will be time for your questions and a book signing with Regina.  This program is free and registration is not required.

On Saturday, September 28, 2013, from 2:00 to 3:30 p.m. librarian Erik Stevenson demonstrate How to Use eLibraryNJ, Zinio Magazines, and Freegal Music, the Red Bank Public Library’s digital resources for downloading free Audiobooks, eBooks, magazines, and music.   Erik will explaintechnical procedures clearly to the beginner and clarify issues for the experienced electronic media user.  Please call or visit the Adult Reference Desk to sign up.

Anyone interested in the art of collage is invited to the free monthly Collage Klatch at the Red Bank Public Library on Saturday, September 28, 2013, 2:00 to 4:00 p.m.  Learn new styles and techniques for creating your own works in this medium.  Registration is not required.

The Red Bank Public Library offers the free weekly one-hour Yoga for Adults on Fridays from 1:00 to 2:00 p.m.  Allison Sorokin teaches the class, which is appropriate to all levels of yoga experience.

Please bring your own yoga mat.  Registration is not required.  Participants attend on a first come, first served basis up to a total of twenty people.

Free one-on-one Resume Help is offered at the Red Bank Public Library on selected Saturdays between 1:00 and 4:00 p.m.   Our librarian volunteer provides assistance writing a new resume or updating an old one. Free one-hour, one-on-one Computer Tutor classes are available at the Red Bank Public Library.  Learn computer basics or get help with more advanced topics from our knowledgeable and patient volunteers. The Red Bank Public Library New Jersey History Room is open every Tuesday from 2:00

to 4:00 p.m. and by appointment.  Researchers, genealogists, local historians, and students are invited to browse the collection and enjoy historic displays about the area’s people, places, and events.  Featured in the exhibit area throughout 2013 will be items from the collections of Glenn Vogel, long time collector of anything “Red Bank.” Glenn will rotate his collections of photographs, postcards, bottles, jugs, jars, and all manner of ephemera and memorabilia related to the history of Red Bank so that every month something new and different will be on display to challenge the recollections of even the most knowledgeable Red Banker.   Please call the library’s Local History Librarian, Elizabeth McDermott, for more information at 732-842-0690 x119.

The Board of Trustees of the Red Bank Public Library will meet on Thursday, September 26, 2013, at 6:30 p.m. at the library. 

The Red Bank Senior Center in cooperation with the Red Bank Public Library hosts a book discussion group on the last Monday of each month at the Senior Center at 1:00 p.m. except in December.  Red Bank Borough residents age 60 and over are welcome to join the Center and participate in this or any of its other great programs.

For adults 18 and over interested in photography and writing, the Red Bank Photography Club and the Red Bank Writers Group normally meet at the Red Bank Public Library on the first Monday of each month from 7:00 to 8:45 p.m.  Because of the Labor Day holiday, Red Bank Writers Group will meet Monday, September 9 and Red Bank Photography Club will meet Monday, September 16 at their regular times.   The Jersey Inchkins is a club made up of adults who do "very little work.”  Club members build houses, rooms, scenes, and vignettes in miniature, usually on a scale of one inch to one foot. Jersey Inchkins meets at the library on the third Wednesday of each month from 1:00 to 3:30 p.m.  Each group welcomes new members interested in developing their skills in these creative fields.
