MIDDLETOWN, NJ - About 4 acres of Shadow Lake adjacent to the Stevenson Tract were hydroraked this summer to help remove invasive aquatic vegetation including the Eurasian watermilfoil and Water chestnut. A hydrorake is a floating barge with a backhoe mounted on it with several different rake attachments. The equipment removes weeds, silt, and other organic debris that have collected at the bottom of the lake.

Facts about the Eurasian watermilfoil and Water chestnut including their ecological threats are at these links:

The hydro-rake project is part of an aquatic management plan to improve water quality at the lake. The township plans to schedule aquatic herbicide treatments this fall. The Stevenson Tract is located off West Front Street.
