RED BANK, NJ - Children of all ages are invited to an Ice Cream Social to kick off the summer on Saturday, June 15, 2013, from 12:00 to 1:00 p.m.   Build your own sundae, play games, and sign up for the “Dig into Reading” Summer Reading Club.  Children 3 to 12 years old can join the Summer Reading Club at the library and win prizes for every ten books read and enjoy “Dig into Reading” fun activities throughout the summer.  The Ice Cream Social is free and no registration is required.

Timber, a certified therapy dog, visits the library twice a month to sit with and listen to hesitant readers and dog lovers too. Children age 5 and over can register for a free 15 minute Timber Time session on the first and third Wednesday of each month between 4:00 and 5:00 p.m.  Timber is a beautiful, patient, loving, and gentle listener.  Come meet him!

Children ages 5 and older are invited to a Wii Just Dance Party on Monday, June 17, 2013, from 4:00 to 5:00 p.m. Laugh, play, have fun, and enjoy board games, crafts, and some snacks too.

Bring all the questions you always wanted to ask about Red Bank History to the Red Bank Public Library on Wednesday, June 26, 2013, from 7:00 to 8:30 p.m. when you can join in a Conversation with Glenn Vogel, the collector of “All Things Red Bank.”  One of Glenn’s unusual hobbies is digging for historic treasures, and on display at the library during the month of June are items Glenn has collected that were once considered trash.  Then come back throughout 2013 as many items from Glenn’s collections of photographs,  postcards, bottles, jugs, jars, and all manner of ephemera and memorabilia related to the history of Red Bank will be on display in the library’s history exhibit room.   Every month something new and different will be featured to challenge the recollections of even the most knowledgeable Red Banker.   This free program is open to adults and interested children.   Registration is not required.

The Red Bank Public Library in partnership with Literacy Volunteers of Monmouth County is providing Conversational English classes this summer for adults 18 and over from June 13 through August 15, 2013, on Thursday evenings from 7:00 to 8:30 p.m.   The classes are free and registration is not required.  The classes, led by volunteers trained by Literacy Volunteers of Monmouth County, assist those whose native language is not English to learn the language in an informal, stress-free environment in which they can meet and practice speaking with others who are also learning English. Join the next meeting of the Artists’ Workshop for adults at the Red Bank Public Library on Thursday, June 6, 2013, from 7:00 to 8:30 p.m.  Artists seeking inspiration, motivation, and time to devote to their work are invited to attend the “Artists’ Workshop” on the first Thursday of each month.   Red Bank artist Joe Bergholm is our Artist-in-Residence and works with the artists as a group and individually, offering suggestions for subjects as well as guidance in principles of art such as color, composition, and the selection and use of materials.   The Artists’ Workshop is free and no registration is required.  Participants should bring their own drawing and painting materials, although oils are not permitted because of ventilation concerns.

On Saturday, June 8, 2013, from 10:00 to 11:30 a.m. librarian Erik Stevenson will demonstrate how to browse, check out, and download free audiobooks and free eBooks to a computer, eReader, or MP3 player using the library’s eLibraryNJ service.  Erik will explain technical procedures clearly to the beginner and clarify issues for the experienced electronic media user.  Please call or visit the Adult Reference Desk to sign up.

The River Read Poetry Reading Series will hold its regular monthly meeting at the Red Bank Public Library on Saturday, June 8, 2013, from 2:30 to 4:30 p.m. Poets Chris Bogart, Gregg Glory, and Deborah LaVeglia will be the featured readers.  An open mic will follow. The public is invited to this free program and no registration is required.

Colleen Smith, MA, MSW, LSW, of the Monmouth County Office on Aging, leads regularly scheduled Caregiver’s Support Groups at the Red Bank Public Library. The meeting date in June will be Tuesday, June 18, 2013, from 3:00 to 4:30 p.m.  These free programs are available to anyone who is a caregiver for a person over the age of 60.  Caregivers are invited to come and relax while finding resources and information with a supportive group of peers. The Red Bank Public Library offers the free weekly one-hour Yoga for Adults on Fridays from 1:00 to 2:00 p.m.  Allison Sorokin teaches the class, which is appropriate to all levels of yoga experience.

The Board of Trustees of the Red Bank Public Library will meet on Thursday, June 27, 2013, at 6:30 p.m. at the library. 

The Red Bank Senior Center in cooperation with the Red Bank Public Library hosts a book discussion group on the last Monday of each month at the Senior Center at 1:00 p.m. except in December.  Red Bank Borough residents age 60 and over are welcome to join the Center and participate in this or any of its other great programs.

For adults 18 and over interested in photography and writing, the Red Bank Photography Club and the Red Bank Writers Group meet at the Red Bank Public Library on the first Monday of each month from 7:00 to 8:45 p.m.  The Jersey Inchkins is a club made up of adults who do "very little work.”  Club members build houses, rooms, scenes, and vignettes in miniature, usually on a scale of one inch to one foot. Jersey Inchkins meets at the library on the third Wednesday of each month from 1:00 to 3:30 p.m.  Each group welcomes new members interested in developing their skills in these creative fields.
