MIDDLETOWN, NJ - Garden Club R.F.D. of Middletown has selected Marie Savoia as the recipient of the annual “Perennial Bloom Award”, established by the Central Atlantic Region of the National Garden Club, Inc. to honor special, long-term members of the club. The award is so named because many of the best loved flowers are perennials that spring up fresh year after year and make an outstanding contribution to the beauty of our gardens. It is awarded in recognition of a member who, like the faithful perennials, has made the club grow and bloom by her continuous support of its goals and objectives.
Ms. Savoia has been a member of Garden Club R.F.D. since 1991 and served as President from 1996-1998. She has chaired multiple committees over the course of her membership and she is presently serving as the General Meeting Recording Secretary. As a member of the State Board of the Garden Club of New Jersey, she served as a member of the Editorial Staff for the News Leaf publication.
A Master Gardener and a Master Composter, she has long been an advocate for environmental causes. She established the “Butterfly Garden” on the grounds adjacent to the historic Little Red Schoolhouse, which has served as the headquarters for the Garden Club R.F.D since 1954. Currently she is working to establish a memorial garden in honor of club members who are now deceased.
Garden Club R.F.D. is a member of the Garden Club of New Jersey, Inc. and the Central Atlantic Region of the National Garden Club. Members come from Middletown, Highlands, Freehold, Holmdel, Lincroft, West Long Branch, Red Bank, Monroe, Wall, Ocean, Morganville, Fair Haven, Englishtown, Manalapan and Colts Neck.
