RED BANK, NJ - The Avice Noblett Children’s Room of the Red Bank Public Library will offer special Holiday events and regularly scheduled programs throughout December. On Saturday, December 1, 2012, from 2:00 to 3:00 p.m. children are invited to a “One Book, One Community” event in coordination with the Two River Theater Company’s holiday production of Wind in the Willows. Children five and over can enjoy story-themed games, crafts, and a snack and have a chance to win a family four-pack of tickets to the show. Registration is required for this free program.
Children of all ages are invited to a Holiday Party on Saturday, December 8, 2012, from 2:00 to 4:00 p.m. to make a holiday decoration, play games, and enjoy some tasty treats. Registration is required for this free program.
The monthly “Artsy Smartsy” program will take place on Saturday, December 15, 2012, from 2:00 to 3:00 p.m. Children 5 and older will learn about American artist Norman Rockwell and make their own Saturday Evening Post covers with a holiday theme in his style. While school is out for the holidays, children are invited to come to the library to chill out and watch a movie with their friends. On Friday, December 21, 2012, see The Lorax and on Friday, December 28, 2012, enjoy Brave (PG).
“Yoga Kids” for children 5 and older takes place Thursdays from 4:30 to 5:00 p.m. Alice Balzarini, who specializes in yoga for children and teaches in several local studios, will conduct this class. Children should bring their own yoga mats. Registration is required for this free program.
Timber, a certified therapy dog, visits the Red Bank Public Library twice a month to sit and listen as hesitant and reluctant readers, and dog lovers too, ages 5 and over, read to him. Children can register free for a 15 minute “Time out with Timber” session on the first and third Wednesday of each month between 4:00 and 5:00 p.m. Visit or call the Children’s Room to sign up now.
The Children’s Room offers several free drop-in storytimes for children throughout the week. Swing by the library for “Monday Storytimes” at 10:30 a.m. or 3:00 p.m. for fun stories and a simple craft. All ages are welcome. On Tuesday and Thursdays at 10:30 a.m. “Little Bookworms,” for young children with a caregiver, offers some quick stories, musical activities, and a craft. On Wednesdays at 10:30 a.m. children with or without a caregiver can meet for “Songs and Stories,” a lively program of stories, songs, and activities, with a coloring sheet for extra fun. Storytimes will be on a break from December 17, 2012, through January 5, 2013, and resume January 7, 2013.
The Young Adult Anime Club is a new program for teens and pre-teens in grades 6 through 12 at the Red Bank Public Library beginning Saturday, December 1, 2012, from 3:30 to 4:30 p.m. Meet other people who share your love for anime and watch a few episodes of a show together. At the first meeting we will see Fruits Basket.
The Young Adult Book Club for teens and pre-teens in grades 6 through 12 meets at the
Red Bank Public Library on the first Monday of each month from 4:00 to 5:00 p.m. On Monday, December 3, 2012, the group will be discussing The Wave by Todd Strasser. Regular adult programming in December starts with the next meeting of the “Artists’ Workshop” at the Red Bank Public Library on Thursday, December 6, 2012, from 7:00 to 8:30 p.m. Artists seeking inspiration, motivation, and time to devote to their work are invited to attend the “Artists’ Workshop” on the first Thursday of each month. Red Bank artist Joe Bergholm is the Workshop’s Artist-in-Residence and works with the artists as a group and individually, offering suggestions for subjects as well as guidance in principles of art such as color, composition, and the selection and use of materials. The “Artists’ Workshop” is free and no registration is required. Participants should bring their own drawing and painting materials, although oils are not permitted because of ventilation concerns. The program is supported by a generous contribution from the Friends of the Red Bank Public Library.
On Saturday, December 8, 2012, from 10:00 to 11:30 a.m. Red Bank Public Library reference librarian Erik Stevenson will demonstrate how to browse, check out, and download free audiobooks and free eBooks to a computer, eReader, or MP3 player using the library’s eLibraryNJ service. The Red Bank Public Library monthly adult book discussion group, “Readin’ on the River,” will meet on a special day this month, Wednesday, December 12, 2012, from 7:00 to 8:00 p.m. Members will discuss pleasure books they have read in 2012, a secret book exchange, and holiday treats. Colleen Smith, MA, MSW, LSW, of the Monmouth County Office on Aging, leads two series of “Caregiver Support Groups” at the Red Bank Public Library. These free programs, funded by the National Family Caregivers Grant, are available to anyone who is a caregiver for a person over the age of 60. Caregivers are invited to come and relax while finding resources and information with a supportive group of peers. Share, swap, clip, and collect coupons at “River Clippers,” a monthly program at the Red Bank Public Library. The next meeting will take place on a special day, Wednesday, December 19, 2012, from 2:00 to 4:00 p.m. Join Candyce Till, our own Business Manager, for group discussions on coupon organizing, internet tools, and lessons learned about this popular budget stretching necessity, all as you “double” your fun and your savings by couponing with new friends. This is a free program and registration is not required.
The Red Bank Public Library offers a free weekly one-hour yoga class for adults on Fridays from 1:00 to 2:00 p.m. Amy Richardson Novak, a graduate of the Institute for Therapeutic Massage and experienced yoga instructor, will teach the class, appropriate to all levels of yoga experience. Please bring your own yoga mat. At this time, registration is not required for this popular class, and participants will be able to attend on a first come, first served basis up to a total of twenty people.

The Board of Trustees of the Red Bank Public Library will meet on Thursday, December 20, 2012, at 6:30 p.m. in the Eisner Room.
The Red Bank Senior Center in cooperation with the Red Bank Public Library hosts a book discussion group on the last Monday of each month at the Senior Center at 1:00 p.m. except in December. Red Bank Borough residents age 60 and over are welcome to join the Center and participate in this or any of its other great programs.
