Friday, October 26 (7-10pm) – Scary Adult Version
Sat, October 27 (2:30-3:30pm) -- KID FRIENDLY AFTERNOON VERSION!
Saturday, October 27 (7-10pm) – Scary Adult Version
ATLANTIC HIGHLANDS, NJ - Frightening happenings are afoot atop the hillside STRAUSS MANSION in Atlantic Highlands— and everyone is invited to catch a glimpse of floating specters… graveyard ghosts… a tortured shrinking man… and a possessed madman that resides in the basement! All that, and a brand new ZOMBIE WALK through the center of town (Saturday afternoon) -- and a special late-night screening of ZOMBIE LAND (Friday & Saturday night) at the Atlantic Highlands movie theater -- has transformed this once peaceful seaside village into “Atlantic Frightlands”!
This year’s haunted house (proceeds to benefit the town’s non-profit historical society) is loaded with new special effects including a chilling outdoor graveyard (and peeks of their long-dead spirits)… a tortured tiny man caught in a madman’s twisted experiment… and an even scarier descent into the musty old basement dungeon (where a cleaver wielding demon is rumored to reside). Past visitors have even spotted the ghost of former owner, Ida Strauss, floating along the old mansion’s decaying upper balcony—and even a friendly old fortune teller in one of the timeworn parlors!
The haunted house has added a special “kid friendly” performance for Saturday, October 27th from 2:30-3:30pm (at the conclusion of the children’s Halloween parade) along with nighttime shows on Friday, October 26th (7-10pm) and Saturday, October 27th (7-10pm). Admission is $10.00 for adults ($5.00 for kids). The rain date will be Sunday, October 28th from 7-10pm. Tours last approximately 20-30 minutes.
NEW FOR 2012: ZOMBIE WALK!
Zombies, ghosts and other frightening figures will parade along First Avenue and into the parlor of a truly historic – and haunted – house on Saturday, October 27th at 2:30pm when the people of “Atlantic Frightlands” invite the public to join in their newest tradition of Street Fair… Zombie Walk… and Haunted House Tour.
The yearly children’s parade will begin at 2:00pm in the marina parking lot and proceed South along First Avenue. At approximately 2:30 pm, the new Zombie Walk will kick-off at the marina gazebo, head South on First Avenue, and then proceed up the hill to the Strauss Mansion—where parade goers will be invited inside for a special “kid friendly” tour of the haunted parlor, creepy graveyard, and spooky basement from 2:30-3:30pm (the scarier “adult” tour will re-open and run from 7-10pm). A spooky hearse will lead the parade up to the Strauss Mansion -- where the zombies will be welcomed by a special Halloween-themed band -- and then loop downhill for a safe return to the firehouse for a free pizza lunch.
Zombie participants are encouraged to keep a respectful distance from small children so they don’t give them too big a fright!
First Avenue – from the Marina parking lot to Veteran’s Park -- will remain closed to automobile traffic from 1pm until 4:00pm.
Feel free to come fully dressed as a zombie—but as an inducement to join the fun, local salon owners will staff makeup booths at the Marina gazebo to apply basic zombie makeup to the public (white face, black around the eyes and lips) for free—more elaborate packages (scars, blood, etc) can be administered for a nominal fee.
NEW FOR 2012: “ATLANTIC FRIGHTLANDS” HALLOWEEN STREET FAIR!
Beginning at 1pm, local businesses will set-up sales displays outside their shops to create a town-wide “buzz” with Halloween-themed merchandise (candy, apple cider, pumpkin pie, flashlights, treat buckets, costumes, jewelry, decorations, etc). Sandwiches, warm soups and pizza will also be available at the town’s local eateries to feed the entire family.
