KEYPORT, NJ –The New Jersey Chapter of The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society is proud to partner with the Keyport Yacht Club to host the 12th Annual Bill Volk Leukemia Cup Regatta, June 9-10 in Keyport, NJ. Sailors from around the Raritan Bay will be raising sails to help raise funds for blood cancer research and patient services.
“We are working very hard to surpass last year’s fundraising total of $48,000 to help fund research for a cure,” said Carole Olufsen, co-chair of the Keyport Yacht Club Bill Volk Leukemia & Lymphoma Society committee.
There are many exciting events planned for both racers and non-racers during the Regatta weekend. This includes two days of competitive racing for one design divisions, mono-hull boats over 21’ in length, and a fun Navigator Division race on Saturday. Mount Gay Rum, a national sponsor of the Leukemia Cup Regatta, will host the “After the Races”
Happy Hour on Saturday, June 9 at 4 p.m. Happy Hour will include Mount Gay Rum drinks, a raw
bar and live music provided by “Free Beer & Tips.”
Activities continue on Saturday with the Leukemia Cup Regatta Dinner Reception at 6:oo p.m. The evening will feature dinner, a silent auction, raffle prizes, and live entertainment. Tickets will be sold at the door for $25.
A new addition to this year’s Regatta will be the first annual Light the Bay Remembrance Ceremony. Light the Bay is a maritime innovation based on the renowned Light the Night events sponsored by the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society.
On the evening of June 9, shortly after sunset, boaters in Keyport Harbor will light their boats and illuminate the bay while those on shore will carry lighted balloons. A remembrance ceremony will be held on shore to remember lost loved ones and pay tribute to cancer survivors. Light the Bay will bring the concept of the Light the Night events to the public in an unforgettable, moving ceremony right on the water in Keyport Harbor.

Founded in 1908, the Keyport Yacht Club, is located in historic Keyport, New Jersey on the southwest shore of the Raritan Bay. For over a hundred years, the club has been providing a superior boating experience for local and regional water sport enthusiasts.
The Keyport Yacht Club hosted its first annual Bill Volk Memorial Regatta in 1994 to honor longtime club member, William Volk, Sr. who served as a trustee and chairman of the race committee and significantly upgraded the club’s race program. On June 8, 2001, the club held the first Volvo/Leukemia Cup Regatta to raise money for the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society.
