Shrewsbury, NJ -- Spring is here and the Shrewsbury Garden Club (SGC) is welcoming the new growing season with a variety of informative workshops, programs & events, all of which are open to the public.

The SGC invites gardeners to take an active role in recycling rainwater by installing a rain barrel at their home. On Saturday, May 5th, SGC will sponsor its second "Make A Rain Barrel Workshop" from 9:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. at the Shrewsbury Hose Company #1. Harvesting rainwater has many conservation and money-saving benefits. This two-hour Rutgers University-based workshop is designed to give participants everything they need to build, operate and maintain a customized rain barrel.  Workshop fee is $55 and includes all materials. Registration and payment are due by April 27. For information or to register contact the workshop organizers at This email address is being protected from spambots. Just in time for Mother's Day, SGC will host its ever-popular Gardener's Market Saturday, May 12 from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the old Broker's 3 parking lot located directly across from the Grove. In addition to a variety of hanging plants and planted gift baskets, shoppers will be able to select from an array of locally grown perennials and shrubs. Experienced master gardeners and garden club members will be on hand to assist with selecting the right plant for sun or shade. All proceeds from the sale support the planting and maintenance of several SGC-sponsored projects, including the Allen House Herb Garden, Patriot's Isle and the 9/11 Memorial Gazebo.

Also in May, on Tuesday, May 15, the SGC will host a trip to Cherry Grove Farms in Lawrenceville, NJ, a 400-acre sustainable, diversified farm that produces some of the region's finest artisanal cheeses, while at the same time, respecting animals and the environment. The trip will include a one-hour tour of the farm's organic pasture and its cheese-making operations, lunch and additional time to shop the Farm Store. Guests are welcome.
