Shrewsbury, NJ -- The Shrewsbury Environmental Commission will host an Earth Day Fair and Electronics Recycling Drive, Saturday, April 21, from 9:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. at Shrewsbury Borough Hall.  Open to the entire community, the "Healthy Planet, Healthy People" fair will include a variety of demonstrations and hands-on activities for individuals, families and children including: exhibits on Green products and companies; demonstrations on gardening, composting, yoga and outdoor sports; organic foods, face painting, games and refreshments.  There will also be a raffle with prizes, as well as give-aways and free samples of green products.

In addition to the fair, the Commission will also hold a free computer and electronics recycling drive in the Borough Hall parking lot.  Residents are encouraged to bring their old electronic items to be recycled, including computer components, monitors, printers, speakers, TVs, VCRs, microwaves, air conditioners and cell phones. By law, Shrewsbury residents are not permitted to dispose of these items in the regular trash. There is no limit to the amount of electronic items residents can bring to the recycling drive, but the event is limited to Borough residents only.

Environmental Commission Chair Jill Gwydir says this year's Earth Day will also be a celebration of the Borough's recent attainment of bronze Sustainable Jersey® certification, one of only 108 towns in New Jersey to achieve this recognition.

"The Environmental Commission and its Green Team worked hard to identify and implement initiatives included in the list of Sustainable Jersey® priorities," Gwydir says. "We are proud that Shrewsbury is a community dedicated to improving energy efficiency, reducing waste, protecting our natural resources, and most importantly, promoting the and health and wellness of our friends and neighbors."

In the event of rain, the Earth Day Fair will be moved indoors to gym at the Shrewsbury Borough School, Obre Place.
