ATLANTIC HIGHLANDS, NJ - Spring clean-up has begun in the borough, as homeowners are taking advantage of the mild weather. The borough will collect brush beginning in April - which leaves just three weekends to get piles to the curb.
Brush should not be placed in roadways or on sidewalks.
Borough Clerk Dwayne M. Harris, wrote in an email, "Brush is any yard waste being grass clippings, leaves, small branches and hedge clippings. There is no pre-determined length but I am sure they could be handled by a person. Leaves and brush can never be combined with grass clippings because the Borough has never and does not pick up grass clippings, and leaves cannot be bagged unless you reside along highway 36 and you put them out along the highway.
"Leaves are collected during the leaf pick up schedule which is only during the week of April 2-April 6 for all zones in the town. Brush is picked up by zone, beginning in Zone 5 on April 9 and working down to Zone 1 at a rate of 1 zone per week. The second round of brush will begin again in Zone 5 starting June 25. We collect more brush in the winter and then in the fall there is only one week of brush and two rounds of leaf pick-ups. When and where you can place brush and eaves is included in the attached ordinance and no there is no need to tie your brush.

The Borough has on its website a database which residents may use to find a wealth of information about their property. Titled FAQ, the database provides the block and lot number, lot size, and the year built for any structure in the borough. Information about polling places, as well as brush, leaf, bulk, trash and recycling collection dates for the property. Entering the address is a little awkward, especially for those whose street name is a number, like, 2nd Avenue. For example, "25 2nd Avenue" would be entered as "25 Second" - using the word, and not including the word "Avenue".
