MIDDLETOWN, NJ - The Township Committee said farewell to long-time Police Chief Mike Stoia and issued oaths of office to the volunteer organization’s new leaders. Mayor Anthony P. Fiore and Police Chief Robert Oches presented plaques to Auxiliary Police Chief Mike Stoia at December Township Committee meeting. Chief Stoia retired from his post earlier this year after 39 years of service. He served as chief since January 1994. Oaths of offices were then issued to Police Auxiliary Chief David Deigert and Deputy Chief Ray Estenes by Mayor Anthony P Fiore. Deigert joined the Auxiliary in 1980 and was promoted to Deputy Chief in 2010. Estenes has served with the Auxiliary since 1985.

Middletown Auxiliary Officers are highly trained volunteers who serve their community in a variety of police-related tasks.  During major public events, they augment our regular officers in traffic and crowd control. During times of emergencies or natural disasters, our Auxiliary Officers provide needed supplemental police service to the residents of Middletown Township. If you are 18 years of age or older, a township resident or reside in a bordering town other than Hazlet, and would like to volunteer with the Middletown Township Police Department as an Auxiliary Police Officer contact Auxiliary Coordinator Sgt. Auxiliary Bios

Retired Police Auxiliary Chief Mike Stoia is 63 years old. He was born in Hoboken, grew up in Middletown and graduated from Middletown Township High School in 1965. Mike joined the Middletown Township Office of Emergency Management Auxiliary Police in August 1972. He has attended numerous schools on Law Enforcement, hazardous materials and Civil Defense and Disaster Control. Mike has risen through the ranks of the Auxiliary and was Captain under the late Auxiliary Police Chief Chet Meckier. Stoia was promoted to the rank of Chief in January 1994 and held position for 17 years. Mike is retired from the New Jersey State Division of Motor Vehicles. He is married with two (2) children.

Police Auxiliary Chief David Deigert is 51 years old. He was born in Long Branch, grew up in Middletown and graduated from Middletown Township High School in 1979. Dave joined the Middletown Township Office of Emergency Management Auxiliary Police in January 1980. He was promoted to Auxiliary Deputy Chief in January 2010. He has attended numerous schools on law enforcement, hazardous materials and Civil Defense and Disaster Control.  He is self-employed as owner of Roto Rooter. He is married with two children.  

 Police Auxiliary Deputy Chief Ray Estenes is 50 years old and grew up in Middletown. He joined the Middletown Township Office of Emergency Management Auxiliary Police in April 1985. Ray, who is married, has attended numerous schools on Law Enforcement, hazardous materials, Civil Defense and Disaster Control.
