WALL, NJ - Legislation sponsored by Assembly Republicans Mary Pat Angelini, Declan O’Scanlon and Dave Rible, all R-Monmouth, designating the bridge on Route 36 over the Shrewsbury River in Monmouth County as the "Captain Joseph Azzolina Memorial Bridge" was unanimously approved by the Assembly Transportation, Public Works and Independent Authorities Committee today.
A-2938/S-2073 is also sponsored by Monmouth County Republican Senators Jennifer Beck, Joe Kyrillos and Sean Kean.
Azzolina, who passed away on April 15, 2010, is a former senator, assemblyman, naval captain and supermarket executive. A long-time resident of Middletown Twp., he represented portions of for over 20 years in the Legislature.
“Joe Azzolina’s military, civic and community contributions are remarkable and it is quite fitting that the bridge crossing the be named in his honor,” said Angelini. “Joe’s dedication to helping people, regardless of whether they were a constituent or customer, is what made him special. His generosity touched many, especially the people in . I’m glad we can say ‘thank you’ for all he did. ”

He truly epitomized what it means to serve the public as he always thought of others before himself.”
