– The Hazlet Township Library Committee hosted a ribbon-cutting ceremony on Saturday, May 14, to formally mark the re-opening of the Hazlet Library branch of the Monmouth County Library after the completion of a three-month renovation.
On hand to help with the ceremony was Freeholder Lillian G. Burry, the liaison to the Monmouth County Library System.
Hazlet Township Library Committee Chair Theresa Toal; Freeholder Lillian Burry: Hazlet Library Branch Manager Beth Henderson; Monmouth County Library Commissioner Frank Wells, and former Hazlet Township Committeeman Joe Marques.
“We’re pleased to note that the project was on time and on budget,” Burry said. “The Hazlet Library plays an important part in the community here with its proactive programs, and we’re glad to see the project completed successfully and the doors open once again.”
The scope of the $122,902 renovation project entailed upgrading the lighting and replacing the 35-year-old building's ceiling. Patrons notice the difference, according to branch manager Beth Henderson.
"Most of our regular patrons have the same reaction when they come in for the first time: 'Wow!'," said. "They notice how much fresher and brighter the library is and how much easier the lighting is on the eyes."
Hazlet Township Library Committee Chair Theresa Toal thanked township officials for allowing the branch to set up a “Library Express” window in Township Hall, so that library patrons could still pick up and return books. “You helped make the renovation go that much easier,” Toal said.
Township Committee members Dave Tinker, Jim Brady and Jim DiNardo attended the ceremony, along with former Committeeman Joe Marques, who had initially suggested the renovation project. Frank Wells, a member of the Monmouth County Library Commission, was also in attendance.
In addition, the Hazlet Homeowners Association donated a new American flag and stand in the library’s meeting room to replace the old flag, which was properly retired.
