Christ Episcopal Church
30 Hour Famine Event
April 29 & 30, 2011
Middletown, NJ - The youth will meet at the church on Friday evening to play TRIBE, an educational “survivor-style” game consisting of multiple challenges for their “tribe” to overcome. Later that evening they will construct a cardboard village on church grounds to experience sleeping outside without shelter.
On Saturday morning the youth will join with adults from the parish and partner with Stop Hunger Now to assemble 5000 emergency meals that will then be warehoused and later shipped to disaster areas. Around noon, the youth will engage in a Grocery Store Challenge to purchase food for local food banks.
After an afternoon of down-time, we will gather Saturday evening for worship and then break the fast with a supper at the church.
We anticipate about 25 youth from Christ Church, and have invited youth from Trinity Church in Asbury Park and St. Mark’s in Keansburg, with up to 50 total youth participating.
The 30 Hour Famine is a fundraising program of World Vision. This is the 4th year our parish has put on this event, raising over $25,000 combined in the previous 3 years. Each year we also try and help a local concern to illustrate for the youth that hunger is not just a concern overseas, but also in our own backyard.
