ASBURY PARK, NJ – Try all you want to categorize Jody Joseph, you'll give up frustrated. It's like catching a butterfly in flight.
"I'm the type of person who keeps metamorphosing." she said. "I think it confuses some people. They want to ask me, do you know who you are?"
Joseph, acclaimed by musicians and music fans here as a living legend, built her reputation for more than a decade on blistering blues and rock singing, writing and performing her own songs, and producing her own one-woman show in which she channels Stevie Nicks and Janis Joplin. Her recreation of Janis' performance is so authentic that, she's toured with Joplin's former backup band, Big Brother and the Holding Company.
Jody Joseph will perform a house concert to benefit the Arts Coalition of Asbury Park (ArtsCAP) on Saturday evening, August 21, at 1115 Sunset Drive, Asbury Park, overlooking Deal Lake. This is the second year this homeowner has donated his home and yard for a concert given to benefit ArtsCAP.
The concert is scheduled to begin at 8 p.m., but fancy desserts and Champagne, wine, beer and cocktails and desserts will be available starting at 7 p.m. Local businesses contributing refreshments include and Max’s Wine and Liquors, and Restaurant Plan B. Asbury Media will provide the lighting and sound.
Admission, for a tax-deductible donation of $50.00 per person, includes the concert, drink and dessert cocktails and dessert. Tickets are available for purchase via PayPal through the ArtsCAP website ― http://www.artscap.org. The location of the concert is a private residence, off Sunset Avenue near Asbury Park High School. Joseph is a successful singer, songwriter, and vocal coach. She's released three CDs since 2000, opened for many well-known acts and performed in many showcase shows, and done several benefit concerts for various causes, many of which benefitted schools and young people in the U.S. and abroad. Her original songs range from bluesy ballads, to cranked-up, soulful rockers, and spiritual songs.
A relative of opera singer Mario Lanza and cousin of Jon BonJovi, she's graced both the Stone Pony and the Paramount Theater here and scores of other venues. She performed in countless benefit concerts for her own charities and those of others. She's performed with cousin Jon once, and he's donated signed guitars and merchandise to most of her benefit concerts.
