KEYPORT, NJ - After weeks of being barraged with the phrase ‘Come Get Some’ by Craig Carton of Sports Radio 660 WFANs Boomer and Carton Show, local Independent record label Psycho Factor Records recording artist Honey Thick had no choice but to pen an adrenaline-charged anthem by the same name.
It was all Trumpeter/Backup Singer Joe Stahl's idea. He is an avid listener of the popular morning show and suggested via E-mail to the rest of the Monmouth County NJ based Honey Thick crew comprised of Drummer Joey Baron, Bassist Ed Marshall, Guitarist Willy Kilday, and Vocalist/Cornet player KJ. They unanimously and enthusiastically agreed to put all other band business on the back burner, including practicing for their live shows supporting ‘SPADAMN!’, their all original CD released in February of this year. It is available on iTunes & many other popular MP3 download sites; also available on those same sites is their debut release, “Who Does That?”. Billed as "Slick Driving Psycho Funk Rock Guaranteed to Move Your Soul and Blow Your Mind", this track delivers as advertised w/ huge chords, big vocals & sweet melody as well as an infectiously fun chorus you must sing along to.
It was written, recorded, and mixed by the band collaboratively in their practice studio over 2 days. Since they have an almost 2 decade working relationship, it came together easily due to their familiarity with each other’s talents, as is often the case with these seasoned artists. In fact, Joe Stahl and KJ wrote the identical lyrics and lyrical melody to the chorus of the song before getting together after the initial E-mail contact. This lock step is no surprise; they have played side by side since junior high school, live a block away from each other in Keyport and maintain a friendship that comes across in this and all their work.
After completion of the song, it was submitted to the show producer, Al Dukes, via E-Mail at WFAN. It was instantly accepted by the hosts and staff and played throughout the morning on April 13th. Opening the show singing along to its praise was Craig Carton. After listening to this musical creation countless times, Craig suggested that maybe Mariano Rivera of the NY Yankees could change his entrance music to ‘Come Get Some’ by Honey Thick. Realizing that would probably not happen, he then offered ‘Come Get Some’ as a sort of theme song for the Yanks 2010 season. I hope they were listening.
