MANALAPAN, NJ - Music is in the air at the Monmouth County Library Headquarters as the Ed Goldberg Band ushers in the month May on Sunday, May 1 introducing both a new singer and a broader, more diversified musical program.

The Band, which has been a popular favorite at the Library Headquarters in the past, is best known for its presentation of Eastern, Middle-Eastern and Lower East Side New York musical presentations. Led by Ed Goldberg, the band has performed throughout New Jersey and Pennsylvania, as well as on tours to Israel and other European countries. Goldberg, a professor at the College of New Jersey, has performed at Carnegie Hall and is both a Grammy nominee and Grammy winner for some of his recordings.

Sunday’s presentation will also feature a salute to Mexico in a special tribute to Cinco De Mayo day, with some of the selections presented specifically chosen to celebrate the May 5 holiday.

   The Library Headquarters is also featuring a jazz concert on Sunday, May 22 at 2 p.m. for music lovers.

   Claudio Roditi and Friends will celebrate the entertainer’s birthday in music when they present a concert featuring Roditi as a jazz trumpeter and flugelhorn player. A musician who studied at Berklee College of Music, the Brazilian born musician is in demand as a band leader, a sideman, teacher and recording artist as well as a masterful trumpeter who has played with Charlie Rouse and Herbie Mann, as well as Paquito D’Rivera. Currently, he leads his own band and frequently is on tour with Dizzy Gillespie’s United Nations Orchestra.

     As with all programs at the Monmouth County Library, there is no admittance fee and seats are available on a first come, first served basis. No reservations are necessary for either program, both of which begin at 2 p.m. Doors for the program will open both days at 12:30 p.m. The Library opens at 1 p.m.
