Rumson, NJ – St. George’s-by-the-River Episcopal Church announced its annual Canterbury Art Show … a Tapestry of the Arts, a premier local exhibition and sale of juried and non-juried artwork. The art show will take place Labor Day Weekend, September 4, 5, & 6. Coni Lefferts, chair. “We are pleased to announce, that among the art show’s talented artists who will display their work, we will again have a group of artists from Shore House of Rumson.”
Shore House is a membership organization dedicated to providing resources and supportive services for people with mental illness to have a fulfilling life, including access to employment, education, housing, health care, and the opportunity to be productive, contributing members of the community. Through Shore House, people living with mental illness regain their self-worth and self-confidence, restart their lives, recover and develop new skills, and reintegrate back into the communities through employment, education and service.
“Shore House is thankful to St. George’s for the opportunity to once again participate in the annual Canterbury Art Show.” remarked Warrie L Howell, Executive Director. “The show allows our members to showcase their creative talents by exhibiting their work to the community. Participating in the show also helps the members utilize the communication, organizational and social skills cultivated at the clubhouse. The overall experience provides the support and encouragement our members need to pursue their artistic dreams.”
“The creation and enjoyment of art is such an important part of our social program and it’s one of the activities here that makes our members so happy.” Said Shore House Trustee Mary Jane Kroon. “We love to celebrate the accomplishments of our members. Activities like the Canterbury Art Show help them develop personal relationship and provide the opportunity to interact with one another in a fun and laid back atmosphere out in the community.”
The Canterbury Art Show will celebrate its fourth year. Each year, over 600 works by artists from all over New Jersey are displayed and sold. Proceeds from the art show benefits St. George’s and it’s many Outreach Grants to more than 30 local agencies serving the needy of Monmouth and Ocean counties, including Lunch Break, Family Promise, HABCore, Love INC, Holiday Express, Aids Resource Foundation for Children, Shore House, and more.
Tickets to the Canterbury Art Show … a Tapestry of the Arts can be purchased in advance of the event from the website www.canterburyartshow.com or at the show daily. Daytime show hours are Friday & Saturday, September 4 & 5, 10-6pm, Sunday, September 6, 12-4pm. Daytime show tickets are $10 each and are good for all days of the show. Tickets to the Thursday, September 3, 7-9pm Meet the Artist Reception are $40 in advance, $50 at the door. The purchase of a reception ticket provides the purchaser with free entry to the show every day.
